Piranesi: Book Review

Piranesi

Book Review

-By Sneha Pala

For starters, I read this book long time ago and literally went back to my notes about this book to get me started. I actually came across this while scrolling through my reels and it said that you should jump in directly without any backstory and that's exactly what I did. I didn't know what the story was about, I didn't even read the blurb (which trust me was a difficult job to avoid but I dove in to devour this book raw).

The story talks about Piranesi (a person) who lives in a world with endless halls and uncountable number of rooms, each containing different statues. Within the whole house is an ocean which can flood the hallways and rooms. Piranesi lived alone in this house but he had a visitor called The Other, with whom he discussed his discoveries about the world which he wrote in his journals.

That's about all I would like to say about the book so I don't ruin it for you all. Piranesi is different, it's not one of those books you come across normally. It's uniquely weird. Like every other reader, the first 30-40 pages had me confused. I kept going because the reel did mention a twist in the end. One thing I disliked about this book was the long explanation about every hall and every statue and I agree that's what makes the book unique but it was really tough to keep up with so much description. After a while, I just skimmed through details without actually indulging it.

I liked the book, I really did. Minus all the details, it was a really unique concept and I thoroughly enjoyed the ending. There were a few amazing lines written in this book. In fact, I had a dream about this place which was created in my imagination so I would say yes, the book stuck with me. It talks about loneliness and the constant nature curiosity of human beings.

I gave this book four stars and like I said, if the descriptions were on a shorter side it did have a potential of being a five star read. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who are just starting their reading journey because I know it will get confusing and boring but if you are a reader, I would highly recommend you to give it a go.

As always thank you so much for sticking through!
