Things We Never Got Over: Book Review
Things We Never Got Over
Book Review
-By Sneha Pala
After being terribly disappointed by last read, I sent a bunch of titles to my best friend asking him to choose my next read since I was in no mood to make any decision by myself. Let me start by saying the book was nearly 700 pages and about half of it was just the protagonist wanting coffee. And trust me I get it, I love coffee myself but it was way too much. I don't think I have ever ever ever been disappointed to this extent considering how terrible my last read was. Constant repetition of dialogues and immature characters and what not.
We all love certain stereotypes but this book just overdid every stereotype ever and most of it didn't even make sense to be honest. The story talks about Naomi who is running away from a wedding. Sunshine girl was the first stereotype. Then obviously a guy who doesn't give a care about the world. Then to mess things up even more they already were, add a crazy evil twin sister who apparently has a daughter which is left for Naomi to take care of. I don't know why I didn't stop reading this book after the first few pages, maybe it has something to do with me but I went on. When you are reading a book where you dislike the leads, it gets ten times more annoying when they do silly things, which if you might have guessed is all the time.
Half the time I was wondering if this book is even real because it was just so unrealistic and illogical. Almost every book that is hyped is never worth reading. Guess I have learnt it the hard way by reading 700 pages of constant repetition. When I read this book, I was just my fourth book of the year and I just knew it would be the worst book I have read this year with the whole year's reading pending. Usually the last book in a trilogy is a disappointment but I guess this was the other way around, though I haven't yet read the other two. I am really sorry Lucy Score, this was the first book I read of yours and it has been horribly disappointing.
Another thing I am still shocked about is 'How does this book have 4.15 star rating on GoodReads?' A book above four star rating on GoodReads is supposed to be a good book but this one just turned out to be a massive nothing. I also kept waiting and waiting for the book to explain it's title and when it did actually come in my mind I was like what is this and why of all things is this supposed to be the title.
I am so sorry for this to also be a review where I shout about a book but I swear this book deserves it. More so for having one of the most toxic male characters ever. Poorly written dialogues, no sense of story, terrible leads, this book is a solid two stars (sorry I couldn't give it one star) and I would never ever recommend anyone ever to read this book. Sorry bestie, you chose poorly.
As always, thank you so much for sticking through!
